Deploying a Minecraft Bedrock Server on Ubuntu

April 7, 2020

Preparation

Cloud Server

This tutorial uses an Ubuntu 18.04 64-bit cloud server.

The server core uses the official Bedrock Dedicated Server from: https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/download/server/bedrock

Installation

Download the Server

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install

# Install multi-terminal window dependency
apt install screen

apt install unzip

# Create a screen session named "mc"
screen -S mc

# Create directory and enter it
mkdir mc && cd mc

# Download server - updated August 16, 2020
wget https://minecraft.azureedge.net/bin-linux/bedrock-server-1.16.20.03.zip

# Extract the server files
unzip bedrock-server-1.16.20.03.zip

Start / Stop the Server

# Start command
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=. ./bedrock_server

# To stop, simply type
stop

The server is now installed. You need to open port 19132 in your hosting provider’s security group to allow clients to connect.
